Octopus (Slippery Fish)

I love singing Octopus, by Charlotte Diamond, at my storytimes.  It’s active, adaptable, and works well with or without props (felts, puppets, board book).  And since the crowd in my area is already familiar with it, I can leave them to do the hand movements independently while I play it on ukulele.

I’ve transposed it from the original chords (found in this book) to chords that work better with my vocal range and are simple enough for an amateur like me to handle while distracted by a mob of excited preschoolers.

Octopus (Slippery Fish)
C                                                 G7

Octopus... squiggling...
Tuna fish... flashing...
Great white shark... lurking...
Humongous whale... spouting...
